Poker Patience
When I first started playing poker it didn’t take too long for me to pick up the basics-betting, checking, reading other players, that sort of thing came pretty quickly. Soon enough, I started to learn some of the more subtle deceptions-the check raise, showing my bluff, that wasn’t a problem for me. That’s why I was so confused, I would do so well in the beginning of a poker game, but more often than not, as the night wore on, I’d eventually start to bleed chips and get knocked out.
Then I found it-I was impatient! Rather than wait for the right time to make a move like I would in the beginning of the game, I would start forcing plays with the wrong pokerhands, I’d rush into the betting with a weak hand, or I’d try to bully someone without even trying to read their hand. I’d get impatient, then I’d get reckless.
Once I picked up on this bad habit, I’d keep an eye out for it to rear it’s head. If you’re like me, you should too. As the pokergame wears on and you start getting tired, ask yourself why you’re playing the way you are. Make sure you’re betting out of strategy rather than impatience.
