Jamie Gorelick’s Obama Connection

As the 2008 President-elect Barack Obama begins his herculean task of restructuring the American government, he is ready to take on the advice of a team of advisers who will help him complete the Obama administration lineup. Jamie Gorelick, Deputy Attorney General for the Clinton administration, is rumored to be one of those being considered for the position of Attorney General.

Jamie Gorelick’s advantage lies in her long list of qualifications and credentials. She is experienced not only in public service but in private and corporate matters as well. She has worked with and for individuals and groups/organizations involved in a variety of interests like civil and criminal litigation, policy and governance, and internal corporate investigations.

If Obama chooses Jamie Gorelick, the former Deputy Attorney General will only be the 2nd woman to be appointed in the position, the first being Gorelick’s former boss, Janet Reno.

Jamie Gorelick’s vast experience in the corporate world is courtesy of her stint with the law firms Miller, Cassidy, Larroca and Lewin (1975) and WilmerHale, of which she is currently a partner. Jamie Gorelick’s significant experiences in corporate matters may prove to be a positive factor in countering the present day financial crisis and its effects.

Jamie Gorelick’s contacts in the bureaucratic circle and her connections to civil rights are what link her to President-elect Obama. Although Gorelick helped Senator Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Democratic primaries, she went ahead and donated $10,000 to Obama’s political campaign.

From 1994 to 1997, Jamie Gorelick was arguably the 2nd most powerful individual in the Clinton Administration’s Justice Department.
